How the predictions work
SluggerIQ begins with a strength mark for every club, revising it after each contest according to the result's surprise and the difference in runs. A separate scoring model weighs runs made and surrendered against the league norm. Each league receives its own home-field adjustment. Poisson estimates then describe the likelihood of extra innings, a victory by at least two runs and a total above the league line. Baseball's results wander more than those of the other major sports, and even the best clubs rarely reach 60%. When the record is brief, the figures are drawn back toward average, as they should be early in a season.
